Chappell Roan Belts "Good Luck, Babe!" After a Hysterical Tonight Show Interview

The "Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess" singer chatted with Jimmy Fallon about her huge Gov Ball crowd, drag star Sasha Colby, and more.

For those just discovering Chappell Roan, it might seem like she’s an overnight sensation. However, as she shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on June 20, her journey has been far from sudden.

Roan, whose debut album "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess" came out in 2023, revealed an old photo of herself performing solo on a small stage.

"I had no money, and I was working at a doughnut shop," Roan humorously told Fallon, describing the picture from her early days.

Her Tonight Show debut followed a packed performance at the June Governor's Ball. After chatting with Fallon, she dazzled the audience with a vibrant, feather-filled rendition of her new single, "Good Luck, Babe!" Fallon asked her how it felt to suddenly become a pop star.

"It feels like I was right all along," Roan joked. "I felt like I made it when people started showing up to my concerts a few years ago. Everything since then has been the cherry on top."

Roan also discussed Sasha Colby with Fallon. "You said something at Coachella that I loved," Fallon remarked. "You said, 'I'm Chappell Roan, and I'm your favorite artist's favorite artist.'"

Roan explained it was a nod to Sasha Colby, a drag star who won Season 15 of RuPaul's Drag Race and is known for saying, "I'm your favorite drag queen's favorite drag queen."

"It just hit me through the heart," Roan shared. "I hope Sasha Colby watches me one day. That's why I said it." To close her appearance, Roan performed "Good Luck, Babe!" in Studio 6B, donning a stunning feathered outfit.

"We draw inspiration from drag, horror movies, burlesque, and theater," Roan told Fallon about the looks she and her stylist, Genesis Webb, create. "I love looking pretty and scary, or pretty and tacky, or even not pretty at all! I love all of it."
