Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2024

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti celebration slated for February 19, 2024.

This day commemorates the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the visionary founder of the Maratha Empire.

Recognized as a state-wide holiday in Maharashtra, the day is celebrated as Shiv Jayanti or Shivaji Jayanti.

Born around 1630 in Pune, Shivaji, a natural leader, began conquering forts during his teenage years.

In a tumultuous political era, Shivaji carved an enclave, laying the groundwork for the Maratha Empire, and was formally crowned Chhatrapati in 1674.

Shivaji played a crucial role in reviving Hindu political traditions, promoting the use of Marathi and Sanskrit in court, diverging from Persian.

Known for his civil administration, bravery, and tactical brilliance, Shivaji won numerous wars against the Mughals.

Revered as the 'Mountain Rat' for his strategic acumen, Shivaji is acknowledged as the Father of the Indian Navy, establishing naval defense.

Gaining importance during the independence movement, Shivaji is celebrated as a hero of the Hindus.

The 210-meter statue in Mumbai surpasses the Statue of Liberty. Banks will be closed, Maharashtra observes a "dry day," and schools and colleges remain closed for the festivities.
